Kylian Mbappé's 9 World Cup goals scrutinized

1st, the most fox: France – Peru (1-0), June 21, 2018

If Kylian Mbappé’s style of play differs from that of a Pippo Inzaghi, he also knows, as the Italian did perfectly in his time, to turn into a surface fox. His first goal in the World Cup proves it. Facing Peru, Giroud shoots but his shot is deflected by Rodriguez before lobbing Gallese, the goalkeeper. Full of flair, Mbappé had followed and he only has to push the ball from the right into the back of the net (34th). Thanks to this goal, the only one of the match (1-0), France obtains its ticket for the 8th finals.

2nd, the most exhilarating: France – Argentina (4-3), June 30, 2018

During this magnificent round of 16, Mbappé revealed himself to the eyes of the whole world with his fantastic ride leading to the opening of the scoring on Griezmann’s penalty, but he also allowed France to regain the advantage with a marvelous goal, combination of technique and power.

On a strike from Matuidi countered, the ball comes back hard on Mbappé, in the heart of the area slightly to the left. The Parisian manages to control from the right, pushes the ball and puts Enzo Pérez in the wind with an acceleration of which he has the secret, which prevents the intervention of Mercado, anticipates the return of Fazio then unleashes a shot from the left which passes between the legs of Armani (3-2, 64th).

3rd, the “flattest”: France – Argentina (4-3), June 30, 2018

Four minutes after his first goal in this shock, Mbappé arrives launched on the counter and is perfectly offset from the right axis by Giroud. In the middle of the race, the striker perfectly takes the ball without control, from inside the right, and allows France to widen the gap on their first double in the World Cup (4-2, 68th). A decisive double until the end, since the final score will be 4-3.

4th, the most triumphant: France – Croatia (4-2), July 15, 2018

France leads 3-1 in the final and Mbappé will leave his mark until the end in this tournament. After an acceleration from Lucas Hernandez on the left side, the side finds Mbappé, completely unmarked 25 m from the goal. The Parisian controls and, with a cross shot from the right at ground level, deceives Subasic on his right (65th). Half an hour later, the Blues, victorious 4-2, will be crowned world champions for the second time in their history.

5th, the most cerebral: France – Australia (4-1), November 22, 2022

Mbappé’s goal against Australia is, for now, one of a kind. The striker scores little with a header and he’s only scored one so far in the World Cup. On a cross, Ousmane Dembélé deposits the ball from 6 meters and Mbappé then speaks with his sense of timing. Quicker than his opponents, he manages to slip between two defenders before gaining momentum and deceiving Ryan with an uncrossed header, helped by the right post of the Socceroos goalkeeper (68th). The Blues won 4-1 and launched their World Cup perfectly.

6th, the most complicit: France – Denmark (2-1), November 26, 2022

A goal synonymous with complicity between the striker and his side. On the left of the surface, Mbappé serves deep Théo Hernandez, who instantly puts him back at 6 meters. Unmarked, the 2018 world champion takes the ball from inside the right and deceives Kasper Schmeichel (1-0, 61st). A perfect conclusion after a “one-two” which put the whole Danish defense in the wind.

7th, the most torn: France – Denmark (2-1), November 26, 2022

There are only four minutes left in regulation time, and France, then hooked by Denmark (1-1), will be delivered by Mbappé. From the right of the surface, Griezmann rolls up a center returning to the far post, where the attacker, full of desire, throws himself to resume at close range with the right thigh and beat Schmeichel again (86th). Thanks to Mbappé, then author of his 2nd double in the World Cup, France is guaranteed to finish in 1st place in his group before his last match against Tunisia.

8th, the most powerful: France – Poland (3-1), December 4, 2022

France got off to a good start in their round of 16 against Poland thanks to Olivier Giroud and they will increase their lead at the start of the last quarter of an hour of regulation time thanks to Mbappé. Found by Ousmane Dembélé at the entrance of the 16 meters on the left side, the striker controls from the right, enters the box and takes his time before unleashing an overpowering strike from the right on which Szczesny can do nothing (2-0, 74th) .

9th, the latest: France – Poland (3-1), December 4, 2022

Mbappé achieves his 3rd double in the event against Poland. A quarter of an hour after making it 2-0, the 23-year-old widened the gap further in added time, his only goal scored once regulation time ended. Shifted by Marcus Thuram to the left in the area, Mbappé manages to resist an opponent before adjusting a curling strike from the right that Szczesny can only touch (3-0, 90th + 1). Victorious 3-1, France continues its adventure.
