Denisot: “Everything is admirable at Kylian Mbappé”

Tonight (9 p.m., BeIN Sports 1), PSG is moving to the lawn of Châteauroux for the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. A special meeting for Michel Denisot, non-executive president of the National club for two years.

Michel Denisot was the president of PSG for seven years, from 1991 to 1998. He experienced some very fine hours in the history of the Rouge & Bleu, with in particular the victory in European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1996. At 77, he is still in the world of football. He is the president of his second heart club, the Berrichonne of Chateauroux since the takeover of the club by Saudi investors in 2021. For The Parisianhe confided in this meeting, his years at the PSG…Selected excerpts.

The reception of PSG, a beautiful evening in perspective?

I hope you are right! (laughs) Yes, we are approaching this match quite cheerfully knowing that we are playing one of the biggest teams in the world and that in addition we are not in a good period sportingly (14th in National and therefore relegated). But it’s an interesting challenge that should allow us to progress. Afterwards, it’s fantastic to come across the PSG in French Cup in a region where there is no club League 1 less than several hundred kilometers away. Obviously, we were sold out in one afternoon. And I sent a little message to Galtier to tell him that we had an exceptional lawn. It’s a detail, but one that counts.

My president’s jubilee?

Oh, I don’t want to monopolize this match, but indeed personally it’s special, otherwise we wouldn’t be talking to each other. We said at the start of the season that we were going to play the Cup to try to pass the laps to arrive in 32nd and fall on the PSG… I followed the draw on the Fédé website. And we were the last two clubs drawn. It was quite funny.

No longer present at the Parc des Princes for years

No, it’s been a very long time since I’ve been there. But it doesn’t make any particular sense. In fact, I don’t like reverse gears. I lived almost at full capacity there for seven years and I would be happy to go back. I follow all the matches eh. But I like to see them at home. Afterwards, I have a completely courteous relationship with the PSGthere are no problems.

What remains of my time at PSG?

The good relations with the people with whom I have shared these seven years. I don’t live in memory. Come to my house, there is no trace of anything. Neither football nor TV. I don’t even have a tape of what I’ve done in my life. It’s not my modus operandi. But the discussions with the players, that interests me a lot. It goes from George Weah who is president of Liberia to others who have more anonymous jobs. It’s the continuation of life in fact.

Would you have liked to lead PSG today?

No. I went. I so want to do things in my life and I’m 77 so I know that… I’m doing a documentary for France 2 until May, I have a book which will be released in March. I’m always looking for new things to do. Not to be redone. I came back to Chateauroux to render service. But I am non-executive chairman. I’m going to stop this shortly. The president is the owner, not me. I want to do something else.

Mbappejokingly, I would say that I left the PSG in 1998 because I learned that he had just been born! So I said to myself: the future is assured! (laughs) No, it’s fantastic. Everything is wonderful at Mbappe. On the field and in life. He is wonderful. He has a fantastic maturity. It’s beautiful, beautiful.

We can’t do better. That’s it that’s all.
