Ben Yedder, Kolasinac, Neymar… The tops and flops of the 19th day

The 19th day of L1 was marked by many fine performances on an individual level. In particular Wissam Ben Yedder’s supersonic hat-trick with AS Monaco against Ajaccio.

The tops

Sead Kolasinac (OM)

Once again impressive in intensity, like the formation of Igor Tudor, Sead Kolasinac was decisive in the stunning success against Lorient (3-1). First by equalizing with a header after a perfect call then by being involved in Alexis Sanchez’s goal after a climb on his lane. The doubts of the start of the season now seem far away for the former Arsenal element.

Mohamed Bayo (Lille)

Holder for the first time since August in the jersey of LOSC – and a trip to Nantes – Mohamed Bayo was able to confirm his good start to the year 2023 during the card inflicted on Troyes (5-1). Author of a double, the one who had been dismissed on the eve of the match against PSG following a disciplinary gap was entitled to a tribute from the public at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium. “And a Ricard for Bayo!”, proclaimed the faithful of the Mastiffs. “Well, I let it sound, it makes everyone laugh. But I’m happy, it gives me a connection with the public… even if I’ve never drunk Ricard“, reacted the attacker, for Prime Video.

Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco)

Unheard of in Ligue 1 since 2014 and Cheick Diabaté. Holder against Ajaccio, Wissam Ben Yedder responded in the best possible way by scoring a hat-trick in 14 minutes during the demolition of the Corsican club (7-1). With now 89 goals in the Monaco jersey, he took the opportunity to climb to 3rd place among historic scorers tied with Christian Dalger, behind Delio Onnis (223 goals) and Lucien Cossou (115). While he has repeatedly expressed his frustration this season with his playing time, for once he was able to leave the field with a big smile.

The flops

Montpellier, it’s still not that

If some of the Mosson supporters first went on strike before entering the stadium after 15 minutes, they were then able to force a temporary stoppage of the match against Nantes with throws of smoke bombs and firecrackers. The sad image in the stands then continued on the pitch with the expulsion of Wahbi Khazri and Elye Wahi. Plus a stinging 3-0 defeat at home. After the slap received against Nice last week (6-1) nothing is going in the right direction for the Hérault club which only has a 2-point lead over the red zone.

The Brazilian could do nothing to prevent another defeat for PSG, in Rennes (1-0). Too low on the ground, he displayed his face of the bad days by wanting to make the difference alone against a compact block. The loss of balls multiplied for him and Neymar showed his frustration with his inability to make a difference. While he felt psychologically destroyed following the elimination of Brazil at the World Cup, he will have to raise the bar in the coming weeks.
