Paris Saint-Germain quietly disposed of the amateur club Pays de Cassel (7-0) on Monday in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. Carried by a Kylian Mbappé author of a historic quintuplet (his first and the first of the club) and a Neymar scorer, the Ile-de-France club won its ticket for a shock against Olympique de Marseille in the next round.
The dream is over. In front of nearly 35,000 supporters and a sold-out Bollaert stadium, the Pays de Cassel club was no match for a very diligent PSG on Monday. Just back from their tour in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the Ile-de-France players signed a very serious match to easily win their round of 16 in the Coupe de France against the Regional 1 club (7-0).
The fans of the Pays de Cassel, they did not deserve during the first half hour before cracking in a few minutes against the accelerations of the Parisian stars.

The Mbappé rocket sees triple before half-time
Coming into play for the end of the match during the defeat to Rennes in Ligue 1 (1-0), Kylian Mbappé started his first official match since January 1. Well taken by the defense of the Pays de Cassel during the first minutes, the Frenchman first seemed lost in the block of the northern club.
But like his team, when he accelerated, it hurt. Found on a center back from Nuno Mendes, the French striker added goalkeeper Romain Samson without control. Well helped by the deflection of a defender, Kylian Mbappé thus scored his first goal of the year 2023 in competition (1-0, 29th).
In the process, the tricolor striker served Neymar in the area on the goal of the break (2-0, 33rd) before taking care to go there with his double. Launched at the limit of offside on a long ball from Danilo Pereira, ‘Kyks’ lobbed the Cassel goalkeeper on a half-volley (3-0, 35th).
Taking advantage of the spaces left by the defense of the R1 club, and a superb low pass from Vitinha, Kylian Mbappé then completed the first act with a hat-trick on love from a small stung ball (4-0, 40th). In just eleven minutes, the 24-year-old striker reminded that he had no intention of passing up a chance to improve his stats.
Neymar nervous but goalscorer
Also a scorer, in the middle of the Kylian Mbappé festival, Neymar spent a slightly more complicated evening than his PSG partner. If Christophe Galtier was reassuring about his ankles before kick-off, the Brazilian finally had a little scare in his right right knee. Not helped by the state of the lawn at Bollaert, the captain of the Seleçao even stopped in the middle of the match to go for treatment on the edge of the field.
Finally returned, the international auriverde (124 caps) then distinguished himself in his own way. As if to take revenge for a slight blow to the face received a little early, Neymar gave a kind of boost to a player from the Pays de Cassel by protecting his ball. Narrowly escaping a yellow card did not seem to have calmed him down and moments later the Brazilian did it again and received a logical warning.
In this frustrating start to the game for him, Neymar finally scored after a double one-two with Kylian Mbappé. If the Brazilian finished the job well, his grimacing celebration (the one he usually does) caused the northern public to boo him.
First quintuplet for Mbappé, an OM-PSG duel to come
Upon returning from the locker room, the pace was a little less sustained and Kylian Mbappé took advantage of an error of judgment by the opposing goalkeeper to afford a quadruple (5-0, 56th). Not really inspired until then, Carlos Soler increased the score with a nice heel after a small dribble number from Neymar (6-0, 64th).
As a symbol, Kylian Mbappé closed the scoring in the last quarter of an hour (7-0, 79th). By scoring the first quintuplet of his career, and the first for PSG, the striker has come one step closer to Edinson Cavani’s record (200 goals). The Frenchman is only four long behind the ‘Matador’ with 196 pawns.
>> All PSG matches in the Champions League, it’s on RMC Sport
After half an hour to get started, PSG finally disposed of the Pays de Cassel without shaking on Monday. Qualified for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Paris will go to the Vélodrome in the next round for a huge shock against OM.
Like the Ligue 1 match between the two rivals, almost ten days before Bayern-PSG’s return to the Champions League, this cup competition will be held on February 7 or 8, a week before the first leg between Ile-de-France and Bavarians. It was said that PSG lacked confidence before this meeting against the Pays de Cassel, this big victory will do good for the morale of the Parisian players.
